Which Supermarket Loyalty Scheme Is Best For You?

Updated: May 20, 2023

Most Supermarkets offer some kind of loyalty scheme but it can be super confusing to work out the best for you. Here’s a special look at the big 4 And how they compare.

Best overall

This will be one of the loyalty schemes you will be most familiar with, but it still holds a couple of nice surprises up it’s sleeve. As you would expect you collect points to be used against products or services. 150 points= £1.50 in vouchers. You can use the physical card, or it's really easy to use the app in your phone. 2 really cool things you might not realise you could do though are quite recently Tesco launched Clubcard prices. This means that as you shop around some items will have two prices. With your Clubcard you’ll pay the cheaper one. It really does make you feel like supermarket royalty as you walk around the store. The second thing you may not have known as that you can use your Clubcard points against other brands. For example you can use a portion against a Disney + subscription, or even a pizza at Pizza express.

The most recent noticeable addition is Clubcard plus. With Clubcard Plus, you can get additional benefits from across the Tesco Group for only £7.99 every month. You get 10% off 2 big shops in-store every month and 10% off selected Tesco brands every time you shop in-store. Pay monthly Tesco Mobile customers can get double data. Its well worth a look. Check out all the options here.

Best for great shopping partners

Another super popular one here, each Nectar point works out at 0.5p, meaning if you earn 1 point from a purchase it’s the equivalent of 0.5% cash back. Like the Tesco Clubcard this can be redeemed against products. You'll also be given vouchers that can be used for money of items in store and online. What really sets it apart is the amount of big brands you can gain points from, such as eBay, Argos and British Airways. Recently Sainsbury have been personalising the discount vouchers it gives you. Meaning you get more vouchers for actual items you want. The nectar card is available in physical or app form.

A new addition is nectar prices. Which is basically a version of the Tesco Clubcard. It's just getting started and there are far less options then available in Tesco, but it's one to keep an eye on. Check out the Nectar site here.

Best for key workers

Morrison's have finally come through with a decent loyalty programme. Not known for being the most contemporary of stores, they have nevertheless produced a totally modern app. It can be activated instantly, has personalised offers and if you are a NHS key worker, or a teacher you can also get money off your shop. Little things like these really do make it worth getting if you are a regular Morrison’s shopper.

Now hold up. We know that Asda don’t have a Loyalty card system, (although they are currently testing a version in 16 stores as we speak). But did you know they do in fact have a rewards system in place on the online version of George? Any points earned can be used to unlock discounts on other items in the George range.

Check out what they have going on here.
